By far and away the most unusual subject for a virtual tour was scanned this month, A Christmas Grotto with animatronics and a real life St Nick!
With each passing month I’m amazed at how many applications virtual tours have. I’ve been working in 3D visuals of all types for many years, long before I walked behind a spinning Matterport camera. When I took the plunge to invest in the tech I’ll be honest, I never thought I’d be walking through a Christmas grotto and scanning a real life Father Christmas. Nevertheless the opportunity arrived and I grabbed it by both antlers.
TJ Hughes on London Rd is something of an institution in Liverpool, many young Scousers have made the pilgrimage with Mum or Dad to see Santa in TJ’s basement over the last 20 plus years. The fact that Attic Display - our client had been responsible for this Grotto for most of this period and whose staff had strong links to another Christmas institution in Liverpool - Blacklers (ask yer mam) made the job even more poignant for me.
Attic Display were updating their website and had found that photos alone failed to do justice to their installations (they do several of these grottoes and other Christmas installations across the region each year.) Having seen our virtual tours they called us up to capture their Grotto and window display in one. We also created a series of videos to capture the moving elements of the display which added to the tags to tell the whole story of the grotto as well as a suite of hi res stills for their website.
Attic Display loved their tour so much we are scanning another of their installations in December which incorporated capturing the outside of the Grotto in it’s nightime setting.
So if next Christmas can’t come early enough for you then get your your yuletide fix here:
