Convirt3D Complete Countrywide digital twin work for Hexagon Care

Updated: Aug 24

August 2026 - Convirt3D, one of the UK's longest established virtual tour companies, completed a piece of work that has seen them create digital twins of all of Hexagon Care's 60 plus sites, which include homes and schools.
The work was originally commissioned back in February 2021. Hexagon, having seen the power of Matterport virtual tours, saw the value in saving busy local authorities and social workers' time by allowing them to pre-visit a site from their desk to establish the suitability of a home or school for a specific child or young person.
The work to capture their sites was undertaken between 2021 and 2026 and included capturing new sites as they came online as well as capturing their operational and recently refurbished sites. Sites captured in England were widespread, Convirt3D systematically visited sites at times suitable to the home managers whilst providing help and support pre-scan to get the best chance of a great virtual tour for each site.

Site work is designed to be as quick and unobtrusive as possible with all but the largest sites captured within 2 hours. Whilst newly created homes are much simpler to capture, operational homes are provided with a shooting schedule to allow the scan to be worked around the working day to minimise impact on the children and young people in their care.

Completed virtual tours provide commissioners with an overview into the home to quickly allow them to see the layout as well as a guided tour that whisks the viewer around the home, the gardens and - in the cases of some homes - their extensive leisure facilities. Commissioners can also virtually walk the home or school at their own pace to check areas of interest.

Maximum value to the shoot is added by creating a pack of photographic stills that are provided to the client. This goes into their home info pack that contains other important documents such as Ofsted reports. The tours are also having a positive effect on children and young people viewing a new potential home:
"The virtual tours have made a real difference to the children we support. Moving into a new home can be an anxious time, but being able to look around and get a feel for the environment beforehand helps remove some of the fear of the unknown. It gives young people greater confidence and reassurance, making those important first steps into their new home much easier. The virtual tours also help build trust and confidence in our service by giving social workers and commissioners an authentic view of our homes. They can clearly see the high standards of accommodation and supportive environments that Hexagon provides for vulnerable young people, helping them make informed placement decisions." Comment from Hexagon Care
There is also a secondary use case for creating a digital twin of each site - Facilities Management. Hexagon's own maintenance team are able to remotely visit sites and measure the 3D model to assist in materials ordering and other maintenance needs.

Convirt3D's support is ongoing for Hexagon Care with some rescanning of refurbished sites having been already undertaken to keep Hexagon's portfolio of homes as up to date as possible. Future new sites that will come online in 2027 and beyond will be added to their digital portfolio.
“ I have worked with Ian for the last five years; nothing is ever too much trouble. He is extremely organised, professional and will adapt to any changes to best meet our need. He is a pleasure to work with.” Comment from Hexagon Care
